Biography
Oscar Homolka was an Austrian actor who appeared in films and on stage in Germany, Britain and the United States. Born in Vienna in 1898, he trained at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts there and began his career on the Austrian stage before working with Max Reinhardt in Berlin.
After emigrating in the 1930s, Homolka made his English-language film debut in Rhodes of Africa (1936) and appeared as Karl Verloc in Alfred Hitchcock's Sabotage (1936). He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in I Remember Mama (1948). Among his other notable films were Ball of Fire (1941), The Seven Year Itch (1955) and War and Peace (1956). He died in England in 1978.
