Biography
Paul Fejos (also credited as Pál Fejős) was a Hungarian-born film director who worked in Hungary, the United States, France and elsewhere. Born in Budapest in 1897, he directed feature films in the silent era before moving to Hollywood, where he made Lonesome (1928). He later directed sound films in Europe, including work in France.
In 1931 he served as editor, with Denise Batcheff, on Jean Renoir’s La Chienne. Fejos left directing in the early 1940s and became a prominent anthropologist, leading expeditions and serving as director of research and later president of the Viking Fund (subsequently the Wenner-Gren Foundation) in New York. He died in New York in 1963.
