Biography
Paolo Cavara (4 July 1926 – 7 August 1982) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. He studied architecture at the University of Florence and began his career in the 1950s making documentaries, including work as a pioneer of underwater cinematography. He later served as assistant director on The Naked Maja (1958).
Cavara is best known for co-directing and co-writing the 1962 mondo documentary Mondo Cane with Gualtiero Jacopetti and Franco E. Prosperi. He went on to direct fiction films such as The Wild Eye (1967), The Black Belly of the Tarantula (1971) and Plot of Fear (1976), and contributed the story for Stay as You Are (1978). He also worked in television later in his career.
