Biography
Pascal Bonitzer is a French screenwriter, film director and actor. Born on 1 February 1946 in Paris, he began as a film critic for Cahiers du cinéma in 1969 and later contributed screenplays to numerous films from the mid-1970s onwards.
He is credited with the screenplay and dialogue for Jacques Rivette's La Belle Noiseuse (1991) and as writer on Raúl Ruiz's Three Lives and Only One Death (1996). Bonitzer has also directed films including Encore (1996), which received the Prix Jean Vigo, and Rien sur Robert (1999). His other writing credits include My Favorite Season (1993) and Gemma Bovery (2014).
He has appeared as an actor in around 30 films since 1967, including Raúl Ruiz's The Suspended Vocation (1978). He has a daughter, actress Agathe Bonitzer, with filmmaker Sophie Fillières.
