Biography
Patricio Contreras is a Chilean-Argentine actor of film, television and stage. Born in Santiago, Chile, he emigrated to Argentina after the 1973 coup d'état and developed his career there.
He is known for his role as Professor Benítez in the Oscar-winning The Official Story (1985), for which he received a Silver Condor award. Other notable film credits include Made in Argentina (1987), for which he won a Havana Film Festival Best Actor award, Old Gringo (1989), Of Love and Shadows (1994) and Sex with Love (2003). He has also appeared in later projects such as Apache: The Life of Carlos Tevez (2019) and Pacto de Fuga (2020).
Contreras trained in theatre in Chile and has maintained an active stage career in Argentina, including a notable production of Waiting for Godot. He was married to Argentine actress Leonor Manso.
