Biography
Patricio Guzmán Lozanes (11 August 1941 – 15 September 2026) was a Chilean documentary director and screenwriter. He directed, wrote and edited the 2010 film Nostalgia for the Light.
Guzmán is best known for the trilogy The Battle of Chile (1975–1979) and the later trilogy comprising Nostalgia for the Light (2010), The Pearl Button (2015) and The Cordillera of Dreams (2019). After the 1973 coup he went into exile and lived in France, from where he continued to make films about Chile. He founded the International Documentary Festival of Santiago (FIDOCS) and taught documentary filmmaking in Europe and Latin America.
Guzmán died of cardiorespiratory arrest in a Paris hospital.
