Biography
Patrick Wymark (born Patrick Carl Cheeseman) was an English stage, film and television actor. He was born on 11 July 1926 in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, and died on 20 October 1970 in Melbourne, Australia.
He studied at University College, London, and trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. After early stage work, including a walk-on in Othello, he appeared in numerous Shakespearean roles at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, and with the Royal Shakespeare Company. His film roles included the landlord in Roman Polanski's Repulsion (1965), Colonel Wyatt Turner in Where Eagles Dare (1968), Air Vice Marshal Trafford Leigh-Mallory in Battle of Britain (1969), Cromwell in Witchfinder General (1968) and the Earl of Strafford in Cromwell (1970).
On television he was best known for playing the businessman John Wilder in the series The Plane Makers (1963–65) and its sequel The Power Game (1965–69), for which he received the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor in 1965.
