Biography
Paul Bonis (1940–2015) was a French cinematographer. He trained at the École Louis-Lumière in Paris, graduating in 1960, and began working in the camera department on Agnès Varda’s Cléo from 5 to 7 (1962).
His career as director of photography began in earnest in the early 1970s. He shot several comedies directed by Claude Zidi, including Les Bidasses en folie (1971), Stadium Nuts (1972), The Big Store (1973), Rookies Go to War (1974) and The Under-Gifted (1980). He also collaborated with Pierre Zucca on Vincent mit l’âne dans un pré (1975), Roberte (1979), Rouge-gorge (1985) and Alouette, je te plumerai (1988). Earlier he had assisted Jean Rabier on Varda’s Happiness (1965) and worked with Claude Chabrol.
From the 1990s he photographed television films, with his final credit on the 2003 TV movie La Maîtresse du corroyeur. He died on 2 July 2015 in Bono, Morbihan.
