Biography
Paul Gégauff (1922–1983) was a French screenwriter, adapter and dialogue writer. He began writing fiction in the 1950s and co-founded the Ciné-Club du Quartier Latin. His first credited feature screenplay was for Les Cousins (1959).
Gégauff collaborated extensively with Claude Chabrol, contributing to fourteen of the director’s films. His other notable screenplays include À double tour (1959), Purple Noon (1960, for which he shared an Edgar Award), Les Bonnes Femmes (1960), Sign of the Lion (1962), Les Biches (1968) and This Man Must Die (1969). He also wrote for directors including René Clément, Éric Rohmer and Barbet Schroeder.
