Biography
Paul Lasaine is a production designer who has worked in both live-action visual effects and animation. He began his career as a matte painter and supervisor on films including Dick Tracy (1990), Batman Returns (1992) and Hocus Pocus (1993). He later served as visual effects art director on The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001–2003).
Lasaine has worked as production designer on animated features including Surf's Up (2007), The Boxtrolls (2014) — for which he received an Annie Award — and Storks (2016). He has held the same role on the Marvel Studios series What If...? (2021–2024) and contributed visual development to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and other DreamWorks and Sony Animation projects. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Northridge, and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
