Biography
Peter Kern (1949–2015) was an Austrian actor and film director. Born in Vienna, he completed a commercial apprenticeship before taking acting lessons and making his stage debut at the Burgenland State Theatre. He toured for several years with the musical Hair.
Kern appeared in more than 70 films, often in New German Cinema productions. His credits include the role of Florist "Fatty" Schmidt in Fox and His Friends (1975), Landau in The Wrong Move (1975), and parts in World on a Wire (1973) and Despair (1978). He also directed around 25 films of his own.
He received the German Film Prize in Gold twice: as part of the ensemble for The Wrong Move in 1975 and for his lead performance in Flaming Hearts (1978). In 1980 he served on the jury of the Berlin International Film Festival.
