Biography
Petro Masokha (also credited as Pyotr Masokha and P. Masokha) was a Ukrainian Soviet theatre and film actor. Born on 16 September 1904 in the village of Pliuvaky (now in Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine), he graduated in 1923 from the Kyiv Institute of Music and Drama named after N. V. Lysenko, studying under Les Kurbas. He was an actor at the Berezil Theatre in Kyiv and Kharkiv from 1923 to 1928 before moving into cinema.
Masokha made his screen debut in 1927 and appeared in several early Soviet Ukrainian films directed by Oleksandr Dovzhenko, including Arsenal (1929) as a workman and Earth (1930) as Khoma Bilokin. His other notable roles include appearances in Ivan (1932), The Thirteen (1937) and Shchors (1939). He died on 28 July 1991 in Kyiv.
