Biography
Phedon Papamichael was a Greek production designer and art director. Born in Thessaloniki in 1922, he worked primarily in American cinema from the late 1960s onwards, often credited as Phedon Papamichael Sr.
He is best known for his long association with director John Cassavetes, contributing art direction or production design to Faces (1968), A Woman Under the Influence (1974), The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976), Love Streams (1984) and Unhook the Stars (1996). His other credits include Texasville (1990) and Seven Hours to Judgment (1988).
Papamichael died in Athens on 16 July 2008. He was the father of cinematographer Phedon Papamichael.
