Biography

Philip Miller is a composer born on 7 June 1964 in London. He trained as a lawyer at the University of Cape Town before studying music composition there with Jeanne Zaidel-Rudolph and Peter Klatzow, and later completed postgraduate studies in electro-acoustic music at Bournemouth University.

Miller has composed scores for numerous films and television productions, including Catch a Fire (2006), The Bang Bang Club (2011), The Girl (2012) and Roots (2016). He received a Primetime Emmy nomination for his work on The Girl. He maintains a long-standing collaboration with artist William Kentridge on multimedia projects and installations, and has also composed extensively for South African television series such as Isibaya and Shaka iLembe.
