Biography
Philippe Arthuys (1928–2010) was a French composer, film director and writer. Born in Paris, he trained in music and worked at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales with Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry, where he became familiar with musique concrète.
He composed scores for films including Le Trou (1960), Paris nous appartient (1961), Les Carabiniers (1963), Les Camisards (1972) and several films directed by Mohammed Lakhdar-Hamina such as Chronique des années de braise (1975). He also directed features including La Cage de verre (1965, co-directed) and Des Christs par milliers (1969). He was the son of the politician and resistance fighter Jacques Arthuys and the father of the director Bertrand Arthuys.
