Biography
Pierre Brasseur, born Pierre-Albert Espinasse on 22 December 1905 in Paris, was a French actor. He was the son of actors Georges Espinasse and Germaine Brasseur. The family acting tradition continued with his son Claude Brasseur and grandson Alexandre Brasseur.
Brasseur appeared in films including Port of Shadows (1938), Children of Paradise (1945) as Frédérick Lemaître, Le Plaisir (1952), Eyes Without a Face (1960) as Professor Génessier, and The Most Wonderful Evening of My Life (1972). On 30 May 1927 he performed the spoken role of the Narrator in the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky's opera-oratorio Oedipus Rex. He was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur in 1966. He died on 16 August 1972 in Bruneck, Italy.
