Biography
Rachel Bennette is a British screenwriter and script editor. She began her career in script development at the BBC, Granada Television, Redwave Films/Fox Searchlight and Film4 before becoming a writer.
Her credits include episodes of the BBC series Lark Rise to Candleford (2010–2011) and Ripper Street (2014–2016), the screenplay for the film Bel Ami (2012), and an episode of Lewis (2012). She adapted Zadie Smith’s novel NW for BBC Two (2016), which received a BAFTA nomination for Best Single Drama and won the FIPA d’Or. She also wrote and executive produced the BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero (2025).
Bennette has originated several television projects and adapted George Eliot’s The Mill on the Floss for the BBC.
