Biography
Rachel Bérendt, born Marie Monique Arkell, was a French actress. She appeared in early films including Les mystères de Paris (1922) as La Louve and Paris Béguin (1931) as Gaby. In 1951 she played La Comtesse in Robert Bresson's Diary of a Country Priest, credited under her birth name Marie-Monique Arkell.
She trained at the Conservatoire and pursued a stage career that included performances in London theatres. She was married to actor Pierre Fresnay from 1918 until their divorce in 1928.
