Biography
Ralph Schwingel is a German film producer. Born in 1955 in Neunkirchen, he studied psychology before making his first documentary as writer and director in 1984. He began producing in 1987 and co-founded Wüste Filmproduktion in Hamburg in 1989 with Stefan Schubert and Lars Becker; Schwingel and Schubert became sole owners in 1996.
Schwingel discovered director Fatih Akın in 1993 and has produced six of his films, from early shorts through the feature debut Kurz und schmerzlos (1998) to Head-On (2004). Other credits include In July (2000), Solino (2002), Kebab Connection (2004), Emma's Bliss (2006) and Flame & Citron (2008). He has also co-founded related companies including Wüste Film West, filmtank hamburg and timebandits films.
Schwingel held teaching positions at the HFF Konrad Wolf in Babelsberg from 2006 to 2013. He later worked in psychotherapy and counselling in Hamburg.
