Biography
Ramón F. Suárez was a Cuban cinematographer. Born in Havana in 1930, he studied at the Academia San Alejandro and worked in television before joining the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC) after returning to Cuba in 1960. He contributed to early ICAIC productions, including newsreels and short films.
Suárez served as director of photography on several films directed by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, including Death of a Bureaucrat (1966), for which he also co-wrote the screenplay, and Memories of Underdevelopment (1968). He left Cuba after 1968 and continued his career across Europe, the United States, Africa and Latin America, working on features such as And Then There Were None (1974) and later international productions until his death in Paris in 2016.
