Biography
Ran Ping (also credited as Ping Ran or 冉平) is a Chinese screenwriter and writer. Born in Beijing in 1953, he has worked as a screenwriter for Inner Mongolia Television and is a member of the China Writers Association and a national first-class screenwriter.
He has written for several films and television series, including the television adaptations of The Water Margin (1997–1998) and Empress Wu Cheh Tien (1995). His film credits include Painted Skin: The Resurrection (2012), The Monkey King 2 (2016) and Kingdom of Conquerors (2013). He frequently collaborates with his daughter, screenwriter Ran Jianan.
Ran Ping co-wrote Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms (2023) with Ran Jianan, Wuershan and Cao Sheng. He also contributed to the sequel Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force (2025). The first film received a nomination for Best Screenplay at the 36th Golden Rooster Awards.
