Biography
Ras Daniel Hartman, also credited as Lloyd George Roberts, was a Jamaican actor and artist. Born in Kingston in 1942, he embraced Rastafari in his teens and became known for his detailed drawings and portraits, which were widely reproduced as prints and featured on reggae album covers.
He appeared as Pedro in the 1972 film The Harder They Come, alongside Jimmy Cliff. His eldest son was also cast in the film. In 1979 he received the Institute of Jamaica Centenary Medal for his contributions to Jamaican art. Hartman died in Arusha, Tanzania, in 1990.
