Biography
Renée Adorée was a French actress who appeared in Hollywood silent films during the 1920s. Born Jeanne de la Fonte in Lille, France, she began performing as a child in the circus with her parents and later worked as a dancer with the Folies-Bergère before moving to the United States.
She made her American film debut in The Strongest (1920) and achieved stardom with her role as Melisande opposite John Gilbert in The Big Parade (1925). Adorée appeared in nine films with Gilbert and others including Mr. Wu (1927) with Lon Chaney. Her career ended after she contracted tuberculosis in 1930; she died in 1933.
