Biography
Renée Taylor is an American actress, screenwriter, playwright, producer and director. Born Renée Adorée Wexler on 19 March 1933 in the Bronx, New York City, she trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and began her career performing with improv groups and as a comedian in New York nightclubs in the 1950s and early 1960s.
She played Eva Braun in Mel Brooks’s film The Producers (1967). With her husband, actor Joseph Bologna, she co-wrote the Broadway comedy Lovers and Other Strangers (1968) and received an Academy Award nomination for the 1970 film adaptation. Taylor is best known for portraying Sylvia Fine, the mother of the title character, in the sitcom The Nanny (1993–1999).
