Biography
Richard L. Van Enger (20 June 1914 – 20 March 1984) was an American film and television editor. He began his career as an assistant editor on Gone with the Wind (1939) and worked on numerous feature films, primarily for Republic Pictures, including The Fighting Seabees (1944), Wake of the Red Witch (1948), The Fighting Kentuckian (1949), Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) and Johnny Guitar (1954). He received an Academy Award nomination for best film editing for Sands of Iwo Jima.
From the 1950s he also edited for television, contributing to series such as Bonanza, Bat Masterson, The High Chaparral and Alias Smith and Jones. He retired in 1976.
