Biography
Sir Richard Stilgoe is a British songwriter, lyricist and broadcaster. Born on 28 March 1943 in Camberley, Surrey, he was educated at Liverpool College, Monkton Combe School and Clare College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the Footlights.
He collaborated with Andrew Lloyd Webber on the musicals Cats (1981) and Starlight Express (1984), and co-wrote the book and additional lyrics for The Phantom of the Opera with Charles Hart. Stilgoe contributed lyrics to the 2004 film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera and the 2011 Royal Albert Hall concert version. He is also known for his humorous songs and television appearances, including on That's Life! and quiz shows.
