Biography

Rihards Zaļupe is a Latvian composer, percussionist and producer. Born in Talsi in 1983, he trained at the Jāzepa Mediņš Music High School and the Jāzepa Vītola Latvian Academy of Music, where he completed master’s degrees in percussion and composition. He has been a percussionist with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra since 2006 and lectures at the academy.

Zaļupe is best known for his film scores, including co-composing the music for the animated feature Flow (2024) with director Gints Zilbalodis, and composing the score for The Pagan King (2018). He has also scored Latvian television series and shorts, and maintains an active career in concert music, with works for marimba, orchestra and choir.
