Biography
Rita Kalnejais is an Australian writer. She graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2001 and began her career as an actor, appearing in productions for companies including Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir, Griffin and Malthouse before transitioning to writing.
Her play Babyteeth premiered at Belvoir St Theatre in Sydney in 2012. She adapted it for the screen as the 2019 feature film Babyteeth, for which she received an AACTA Award for Best Screenplay. Her other screen credits include episodes of the series The Spanish Princess (2019) and the film Surge (2020).
