Biography
Rob Howell is a British costume and set designer who works in theatre, opera and film. He trained and began his career as a resident design assistant with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Howell is best known for his designs for the stage musical Matilda the Musical (2010–2013), for which he won Olivier Awards for set design and received Tony Award nominations for both set and costume design. He also designed for Ghost the Musical (2012), Groundhog Day (2017) and The Ferryman (2018–2019), winning Tony Awards for set and costume design on the latter. His film credit includes costume design on Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical (2022).
Howell has worked at venues including the National Theatre, the Old Vic, the Royal Opera House and on Broadway. He has received three Olivier Awards for set design and multiple Tony Awards.
