Biography
Robert Culp was an American actor, writer and director. Born in Oakland, California, on 16 August 1930, he began his career in the 1950s with stage work and early television appearances, including a starring role as Texas Ranger Hoby Gilman in the Western series Trackdown (1957–1959).
He gained international recognition for his lead role as secret agent Kelly Robinson opposite Bill Cosby in the espionage series I Spy (1965–1968), for which he received Emmy nominations. Culp also wrote several episodes of the series and directed some. Later television work included a recurring role as Warren Whelan in Everybody Loves Raymond (1996–2004) and guest appearances in Columbo, The Nanny and other series. His film credits include The Pelican Brief (1993) and Santa's Slay (2005), in which he played Grandpa.
Culp died in Los Angeles on 24 March 2010, aged 79.
