Biography
Robert F. Simon (2 December 1908 – 29 November 1992) was an American character actor. Born in Mansfield, Ohio, he began acting with the Mansfield Community Players while working as a clerk, later performing with the Cleveland Playhouse. He appeared on Broadway in productions including Clifford Odets's Clash by Night and succeeded Lee J. Cobb as Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman (1949).
Simon moved to Los Angeles in 1954 and worked in film and television until 1985. He played Dr. Norton in Bigger Than Life (1956) and appeared in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962). On television he had recurring or guest roles in series including Bewitched (as Frank Stephens), MASH (as General Maynard M. Mitchell), Columbo, The Twilight Zone and Bonanza*. He was married to Barbara Them from 1940 until her death in 1974; they had four children.
