Biography
Robert Strauss (8 November 1913 – 20 February 1975) was an American character actor. He began his career on the Broadway stage in the 1930s, appearing in productions including Twelfth Night and Macbeth, before specialising in comedy roles.
He originated the part of Stanislas 'Animal' Kuzawa in the 1951 Broadway production of Stalag 17 and reprised it in the 1953 film adaptation, receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Strauss appeared in numerous films of the 1950s, including The Seven Year Itch (1955) as Mr Kruhulik, The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) as Schwiefka, and Attack (1956) as Pfc. Bernstein. He also worked extensively in television, with guest roles in series such as Perry Mason, Bewitched and Get Smart.
