Biography
Rodrigo Leão is a Portuguese composer and musician. Born in Lisbon in 1964, he began his career as a founding member of the rock band Sétima Legião in 1982. In 1985 he co-founded the ensemble Madredeus, remaining with the group for nearly a decade as a key composer before leaving in 1994 to pursue solo work.
Leão has released numerous solo albums since his debut Ave Mundi Luminar in 1993. His film scores include the music for Wim Wenders’ Lisbon Story (1994, as part of Madredeus) and Lee Daniels’ The Butler (2013), for which he received an ASCAP Film and Television Music Award. Other credits include The Gilded Cage (2013) and 100 Meters (2016).
