Biography
Roland Topor was a French illustrator, cartoonist, painter, novelist, playwright, film and television writer, filmmaker and actor. He wrote the screenplay, in collaboration with director René Laloux, for the animated feature Fantastic Planet (1973), based on Stefan Wul’s novel Oms en série.
Topor is also known for his novel The Tenant (Le Locataire chimérique, 1964), which was adapted into a film by Roman Polanski in 1976. He collaborated with Laloux on the earlier short films The Snails (1966) and Les temps morts (1965). His other screenwriting credits include The Troubles of Alfred (1972) and Marquis (1989).
