Biography
Roy Billing is a New Zealand actor. Born in 1947 in Ruawai, Northland, he grew up there and began his career in theatre with Auckland's Theatre Corporate in the late 1970s before moving into screen work.
He spent almost three decades living and working in Australia, where he appeared in films including The Dish (2000) as Mayor Robert 'Bob' McIntyre, Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002) as the Police Inspector, Aquamarine (2006) and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010). He became widely known for playing organised-crime boss “Aussie Bob” Trimbole in the television series Underbelly (2009), a role that earned him an AFI Award for Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama and a Logie nomination.
Billing has also had recurring roles in series such as My Life Is Murder and The Brokenwood Mysteries, and returned to New Zealand in later years, settling on Waiheke Island.
