Biography
Rudolf Melichar was an Austrian actor. Born on 22 June 1929 in Berlin, Germany, he moved to Vienna at the age of thirteen and trained at the Reinhardt-Seminar. He joined the Burgtheater ensemble in 1968 and remained a member for over five decades, appearing in more than one hundred roles.
Melichar also worked regularly in film and television from the 1970s onwards. His credits include the role of Anton in the 1978 miniseries Holocaust, appearances in three episodes of the series Tatort (including as Dr. Berghof), and the part of Le directeur in Michael Haneke’s The Piano Teacher (2001). He died on 2 October 2025 in Austria.
