Biography
Rudolph Christians was a German actor. Born on 15 January 1869 in Middoge, Oldenburg, he trained for the stage after an initial apprenticeship and built a career at theatres including the Deutsche Volkstheater in Vienna and the Königliches Schauspielhaus in Berlin.
He appeared in German films from 1913 and later worked in the United States, where he directed at the Irving Place Theatre in New York. Christians is known for his role as Andrew J. Hughes in Foolish Wives (1922). Other credits include Deep Waters (1920) and Dissonanzen des Lebens (1913).
He was married to opera and concert singer Bertha Klein and was the father of actress Mady Christians. Christians died of pneumonia on 2 February 1921 in Pasadena, California, during the production of Foolish Wives; Robert Edeson completed the role.
