Biography
Rudy Wurlitzer, also credited as Rudolph Wurlitzer, is an American novelist and screenwriter. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he attended Columbia University and served in the US Army before travelling and working as secretary to Robert Graves on Majorca. He returned to New York in the mid-1960s, where he met artists including Claes Oldenburg, Robert Frank and Philip Glass.
Wurlitzer wrote the screenplay for Monte Hellman’s Two-Lane Blacktop (1971), in which he also appeared as the Hot Rod Driver, and for Sam Peckinpah’s Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973). His other screenplays include Walker (1987), Wind (1992) and Little Buddha (1993). He has also written novels such as Nog (1969) and Drop Edge of Yonder (2008), and the travel memoir Hard Travel to Sacred Places (1995). He is married to photographer Lynn Davis.
