Biography
Russell Collins (born Russell Henry Collins) was an American actor whose career spanned stage, film and television from the 1920s to the mid-1960s. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he trained at the Carnegie Institute of Technology Drama School and attended Indiana University and Northwestern University. He began professional stage work in the early 1920s with a stock company in Cleveland and made his Broadway debut in 1932.
Collins appeared in numerous Broadway productions through 1962, including a notable starring role in the 1935 musical play Johnny Johnson. From the late 1940s he worked increasingly in Hollywood, with film roles including Mr. Hastings in Bad Day at Black Rock (1955), Mr. Qua in Niagara (1953) and Knapp in Fail Safe (1964). He also had many television appearances, among them episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Twilight Zone and Perry Mason. He died in West Hollywood, California, in 1965.
