Biography
Ruth Waldburger is a Swiss film producer. Born on 25 April 1951 in Herisau, she grew up in Arosa and Herisau. She began her career in 1974 as a secretary and production assistant on the television programme Kassensturz at SRF, later working in the information department of Swiss television. In 1977 she completed an internship as a production manager with director Alain Tanner.
In 1982 Waldburger became co-owner of Xanadu Film. She founded Vega Film AG in 1988 and has produced or co-produced more than eighty films through the company. Her credits include Béla Tarr's Satantango (1994), Tom DiCillo's Johnny Suede (1991) and eleven films directed by Jean-Luc Godard. She has also worked with Alain Resnais, Gianni Amelio, Silvio Soldini and others.
In 2023 Waldburger received the honorary Swiss Film Award for her contributions to Swiss cinema.
