Biography
Ryuhei Kitamura (also credited as Ryûhei Kitamura) is a Japanese film director, screenwriter and producer. Born on 30 May 1969 in Osaka, he moved to Australia at the age of 17 to study cinematography at the School of Visual Arts in Sydney. He returned to Japan and began his career with short films, including Down to Hell (1997).
Kitamura’s feature debut Versus (2000) gained international attention on the festival circuit. He went on to direct Azumi (2003) and Godzilla: Final Wars (2004), for which he also received a screenplay credit. Subsequent films include the American productions The Midnight Meat Train (2008) and No One Lives (2013), as well as Lupin the 3rd (2014) and Downrange (2018).
