Biography
Ryūji Kita (also credited as Ryûji Kita or 北竜二) was a Japanese actor. He appeared in more than 280 films between 1937 and 1972, often in supporting roles as fathers, school principals or company executives.
He began in the scenario department at Shochiku studios before moving to Nikkatsu, where he made his acting debut in 1937. After periods at Daiei and freelance work, he returned to Shochiku in 1950. Kita featured in several films directed by Yasujirō Ozu, including Equinox Flower (1958), Late Autumn (1960) and An Autumn Afternoon (1962), in which he played Shin Horie. Other credits include Tokyo Drifter (1966), Zatoichi's Cane Sword (1967) and King Kong Escapes (1967).
