Biography
Salvo Randone (born Salvatore Randone) was an Italian stage, film and television actor. Born in Syracuse, Sicily, he began his career on stage in his early twenties and became one of Italy's noted theatre performers, working with directors including Luchino Visconti and Giorgio Strehler.
His most productive period in film was the 1950s and 1960s. He appeared in around 45 films between 1943 and 1977, collaborating with directors such as Federico Fellini, Francesco Rosi and Elio Petri. He is particularly associated with Petri, appearing in almost all the director's films from The Assassin (1961) to Property Is No Longer a Theft (1973). His performances in Petri's films earned him two Nastro d'Argento awards and a Grolla d'oro. Randone's last film role was in 1977; he retired from the stage in 1989.
