Biography
Sam Altman is an American businessman and entrepreneur. He has served as chief executive officer of the artificial intelligence company OpenAI since 2019.
Altman was born on 22 April 1985 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Stanford University before dropping out to co-found the geosocial networking service Loopt. He later joined the startup accelerator Y Combinator, becoming its president in 2014.
Altman appears as himself in the 2026 documentary The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist. He has made other television appearances as himself, including on Kara Swisher Wants to Live Forever.
