Biography
Sam Gilman (1915–1985) was an American film and television actor. He began his acting career in 1950 with an uncredited role in The Men and went on to appear in numerous films and television series over three decades.
Gilman is known for playing Harvey Johnson in the 1961 western One-Eyed Jacks, directed by and starring Marlon Brando, with whom he maintained a close friendship. Other film credits include The Wild One (1953), The Young Lions (1958), The Missouri Breaks (1976) and Every Which Way but Loose (1978). On television he guest-starred in series such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Star Trek (as Doc Holliday), Kojak and The Untouchables, and had a regular role as Sam Grafton in the 1966 series Shane.
Before acting, Gilman worked as a cartoonist for Funnies Inc. in the 1930s and 1940s. He also worked as an acting coach.
