Biography
Sam Peckinpah was an American film director and screenwriter. He was born David Samuel Peckinpah on 21 February 1925 in Fresno, California, and died on 28 December 1984 in Inglewood, California. He studied drama at California State University, Fresno, and earned a master's degree from the University of Southern California. He began his career writing and directing for television series including Gunsmoke (1955).
Peckinpah's feature films include Ride the High Country (1962), The Wild Bunch (1969), for which he also wrote the screenplay, Straw Dogs (1971), Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974), on which he served as director, screenwriter and story writer. Other notable works are The Getaway (1972) and Cross of Iron (1977).
