Biography
Samuel Kaylin (born Shevach Kalinowski) was a film composer and music director. Born on 18 January 1892 in Melitopol, Taurida Governorate, Russian Empire (now Ukraine), he emigrated to the United States in 1907 and later worked as a musician at the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles.
Kaylin joined Fox Film in 1930 and composed or directed music for more than 80 films, including scores for the Charlie Chan and Mr. Moto series. His credits include John Ford's Judge Priest (1934) and Shirley Temple's Bright Eyes (1934). He left 20th Century Fox, the successor to Fox Film, in 1940.
In 1943 he founded the Professional Institute of Music and Drama and scored The Leather Burners. Kaylin died on 7 July 1983 in Bakersfield, California.
