Biography
Sandi Sissel is an American cinematographer, director and producer. Born on 9 August 1949 in Paris, Texas, she earned a BFA from Southern Methodist University and an MA from the University of Wisconsin. She began her career in network news at NBC and ABC before working as a freelance cinematographer on documentaries and feature films.
Her credits as director of photography include Salaam Bombay! (1988) and The People Under the Stairs (1991). She has also served as second-unit director of photography on films such as Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) and worked on documentaries including Chicken Ranch and Mother Teresa (1986). Sissel joined the American Society of Cinematographers in 1994 and taught advanced cinematography at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts from 2001 to 2015.
