Biography
Satish Shah was an Indian actor and comedian. Born Satish Ravilal Shah on 25 June 1951 in Mumbai, he trained at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune after studying at St Xavier’s College, Mumbai. He began his career in theatre in the 1970s before moving into film and television.
Shah appeared in numerous Hindi films, including Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) as Ajit Singh, Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Main Hoon Na (2004), Fanaa (2006) and Om Shanti Om (2007). On television he was known for Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1984) and especially as Indravadan Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai (2004–2017), for which he received the ITA Award and Indian Telly Award for Best Actor in a Comic Role. In 2008 he co-judged Comedy Circus with Archana Puran Singh. He was appointed to the Film and Television Institute of India society in 2015.
Shah was married to actress Madhu Shah from 1982. He died in Mumbai on 25 October 2025, aged 74.
