Biography
Sean Foley is a British actor, writer and director. Born on 21 November 1964 in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, he began in theatre as a performer and co-writer with the company The Right Size before moving into directing.
His feature-film directing debut was the comedy Mindhorn (2016). He has directed numerous stage productions, including adaptations of The Ladykillers and The Man in the White Suit, and served as Artistic Director of Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Foley is a double Olivier Award winner and Tony nominee.
In 2024–2025 he co-adapted (with Armando Iannucci) and directed the first stage version of Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove, which premiered in the West End starring Steve Coogan and was recorded for National Theatre Live. He also appeared as John Lane in Kenneth Branagh’s All Is True (2018).
